Keep The Spark Alive With These Date Night Ideas

Date night ideas have been the topic of many talk shows  ask any host, relationship expert or just read any woman’s magazine, they will all tell you that the key to a happy relationship is scheduling and keeping a regular date night.

Now some people suggest weekly dates, some a couple times a month but everyone agrees that you should absolutely take time out and actually schedule it into your calendar to connect to communicate as a couple and just have fun together.

Our date night ideas usually entail… hitting the town with my hubby once a week for a gourmet dinner, dancing or even a movie sounds wonderfully fantastic!  I will admit date night seemed so much more easier to maintain before the first baby and nearly impossible after the fourth. The time and monetary constraints involved with having a large family can sometimes put date night way down on my list of priorities.

…. Besides the time and money.  Most of the time I am just pooped.  As much as I would love to have incredibly sex with my husband.  I am just too tired… I never though I’d say that!

Well here’s some of the date night ideas we use to keep the spark alive…

Coming up with more accommodating, but still romantic date night ideas IS possible! See below…

Sometimes,  after going through the struggle of locking down a babysitter which can mean either paying someone money to watch TV while my kids sleep or asking (pleading with) relatives to watch my children, then driving them over there, making a dinner reservation, checking the movie schedule, and getting dressed I’m so annoyed and over it that I’d really rather just take a nap.

Also, a weekly date night can be pretty expensive. Sitters, dinners out, expensive wine, clothes, and gas, can get pretty pricey. All this trouble and expense can easily make you goodbye to weekly date nights

So what’s the alternative?

Well, that’s pretty easy actually. I substitute at least two date nights a month with a “stay at home” date night. Once a week after the kids are in bed..go on a date right in your own home.

Now trust me this is a lot more fun than it sounds! I have three fun and inexpensive stay at home date night ideas to incorporate into your routine now.

A Great Date Night Idea Could be to Have A Picnic

Everybody loves a picnic and for this one you don’t have to go any further than your own yard, deck, porch, or even bedroom floor. I live in South Florida and it’s pretty warm here year round so we use our screened in porch.

Spread a blanket and maybe some pillows so you can comfortable sitting on the ground. I like to light candles to set the mood. Grab some wine, cheese, fruit and crackers and settle in. Stargazing, wine and each other what could be better?  SUPER SEXY!!!

Cooking Class for Two

My husband and I are both pretty good cooks and I LOVE trying new recipes. So once in a while we grab a pizza for the kids and we hit the kitchen for date night. It’s always easy to bond over a shared challenge right?

So browse Pinterest to find a new and slightly complicated recipe the two of you can master together. You can follow the recipe exactly or get creative and add your own twist. Have fun, taste test and feed each other, it’s sure to heat things up.

Also many local supermarkets offer inexpensive cooking classes for the public.

Game On!

Game night isn’t just for the kids. Pick your favorite kind of games and make a night of it. You can use any type of game. We’ve played boards games, card games even trivia games. Or hijack the kids game system and play video games all night.

**For extra fun, turn up the heat on your tournament and add a strip element to your old favorites. Trust me once you’ve played strip trivial pursuit, you’ll never want to play it any other way.**

So you see with a little planning and imagination implementing a stay at home date night, can keep your bond, sanity and budget intact. Do you have a weekly date night? If so, what are your favorite stay at home date night ideas?  Let us know in the comments below…
