6 Ways To Treat Yourself In Less Than 15 Minutes

As busy moms, we desperately need to unplug!  Even though we all know how important it is to unplug, unwind in order to give to every one else, most of the time you neglect to treat yourself!

If we keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny, we will eventually burn out. And burning out means we are less productive, less patient, and more stressed.

But, we like to make excuses.

Sometimes we want to be able to handle everything so no one will think we are weak.

Sound familiar?  WRONG!

Moms – You need to take time to treat yourself!

Taking time to unplug and treat yourself is key to being the best version of yourself. That’s why companies issue lunch breaks and vacation days. It’s why schools take off for the summer.

Especially for us moms, taking a break from being a caregiver is extremely important. You spend so much time taking care of your kids, your career, your husband, but you neglect to treat yourself!

Even worse, if and when we finally do take time to treat ourselves, we often feel guilty about it.

Or we try being productive while taking time for ourselves; such as making grocery lists while having a pedicure or discussing soccer schedules during date night.

I am absolutely guilty of sitting in the pedicure chair with my laptop on my lap, trying to “kill to birds with on stone”!

Let’s not mix business with pleasure when treating ourselves.

So here are a few simple, free, no-excuse ways to help you treat yourself:

  1. Treat Yourself: Read
    I’ve found that even just reading one chapter in a book with my door closed can really help me feel refreshed. I love to read personal development books. When I’m feeling anxious or upset, spending a few minutes reading can really give me clarity and put life into perspective.
  2. Treat Yourself: Meditate
    I like to use a guided meditation app. Put your phone on airplane mode to eliminate distractions, and use headphones. If you’d like to know how to meditate, check out my post How to Meditate For Beginners.
  3. Treat Yourself: Get Outside
    Taking a walk will get your blood flowing. It’s a peaceful time to be present and aware. The weather doesn’t have to be perfect either. Sometimes taking a walk in the rain can be so nice, peaceful, and freeing.

  4. Treat Yourself: Journal
    Most mornings I spend about 5 minutes writing in a journal before my crew wakes up and the morning rush begins. I will write out three things that I am grateful for, three amazing things that happened the day before, and three affirmations. It’s a great way to start your day off with a positive mindset.
  5. Treat Yourself: Pamper
    I love to take time once or twice a week to do a facial right in my very own bathroom. You can make your own scrubs or masks with everyday products that you have around the house. Or you can use your favorite products you already own.
  6. Treat Yourself:  Healthy Meal
    Eating a healthy meal can make you feel so good. Putting good nutrients in your body affects your mood. And just because it’s healthy doesn’t mean it’s not indulgent!

    • Even better: eat the meal alone while reading a book, or enjoy it with your spouse. My husband and I sometimes put our kids to bed and have a late, quiet meal together with a glass of wine.

Make it a priority to treat yourself daily!

So there you go. I know these are simple ideas, but many of us don’t take the time to treat ourselves. This is your reminder!

There is no excuse not to spend 15 minutes (at least!) on yourself everyday. Because you are worth it!

You cannot give what you do not have.

If you are feeling exhausted and overworked (inside or outside of the home), you are more likely to overreact and lose patience more quickly.

If that happens, you end up feeling even worse than you did before. It’s a vicious cycle.
